Private universities are engaged in a
historic contract with the American people.
Today, it's more clear than ever that contract is broken.
Outside attacks,
propelled by popular resentment of elitism,
are threatening the very foundations of higher education.
At the same time,
elite colleges have neglected their civic missions.
They accept more students from the top one percent than the bottom fifty, and funnel their graduates into corporations that exacerbate inequality, worsen climate change, and erode our democracy.
Now is the time to craft a new contract:
one that protects the vital contributions of higher education while redeploying its resources to better serve the American people.
That's where we come in.
Students at these institutions have the persuasive authority, strategic leverage, and institutional knowledge to drive meaningful reform from within.
We’re organizing to do just that — and reimagining elite education's role in society in the process.
